Jennifer Foley was born in Boston and grew up
in New England. She moved to New York City in
the late 1980s and was based in Brooklyn for
the next eight years. She completed three years
of a BFA in photography and a year of film
school at Brooklyn College, CUNY, before
entering the art history program. She ultimately
received a BA from that program. She went on
to complete an MA and a PhD in Southeast
Asian art history at Cornell University. Over the
course of her undergraduate and graduate
studies she spent nearly five years living in Asia,
including extended periods in Vietnam,
Cambodia, and China. Upon completing her
doctorate she returned to her first love:
photography. She currently lives and works in
Richmond, VA with her husband, who is also an
artist.
